1. Introduction
TallyPe (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates the TallyPe mobile application (“App”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use our App. This policy is compliant with the Information Technology Act, 2000 (India) and its associated rules, as well as applicable data protection principles including those outlined in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) where applicable.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information you provide
- Google Profile Data: When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture.
- Expense Data: Categories, amounts, descriptions, and dates of expenses you log.
- Group Data: Group names, member information, expense splits, settlement records, and notes.
- UPI IDs: Only when you voluntarily initiate a payment through the App. UPI IDs are used solely for payment deep-linking and are not stored permanently.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- Device Information: Device type, operating system version, and unique device identifiers for service improvement and debugging.
- Camera Access: When you use the QR code scanner. Camera data is processed locally and is NOT transmitted to our servers.
2.3 Information we do NOT collect
- Bank account numbers or details
- Payment credentials or transaction passwords
- UPI PINs or OTPs
- Financial institution login credentials
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the App's features and services
- Authenticate your identity via Google Sign-In
- Store and display your expense data and analytics
- Facilitate group expense splitting and settlements
- Enable UPI payment deep-linking to third-party apps
- Generate city benchmarking comparisons (using anonymized, aggregated data)
- Send important service-related notifications
4. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored on secure, encrypted servers hosted by [Cloud Provider]. We implement industry-standard security measures including:
- Encryption of data in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest
- Token-based authentication for API access
- Regular security audits and monitoring
- Access controls limiting data access to authorized personnel only
While we strive to protect your personal information, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. Third-Party Services
The App integrates with the following third-party services:
- Google Sign-In: For user authentication. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- UPI Payment Apps (PhonePe, Google Pay, CRED): For payment deep-linking only. TallyPe does not process payments. All transaction data is handled by the respective payment app.
We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of these third-party services, as their data practices are governed by their own policies.
6. Data Sharing
We do NOT sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share data only in the following circumstances:
- With your explicit consent
- To comply with legal obligations or court orders
- To protect our rights, privacy, safety, or property
- In aggregated, anonymized form for analytics (which cannot identify you personally)
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
- Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data and account. Upon account deletion, all your data will be permanently removed from our servers within 30 days.
- Data Portability: Request your data in a machine-readable format.
- Withdraw Consent: Withdraw your consent for data processing at any time by deleting your account.

8. Children's Privacy
TallyPe is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.
9. Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with services. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
